“I approve of freedom, of choices. I believe in the power inherent in naming. Of naming oneself.” - Starsara
I’ve been using ‘leah creates’ as a screen name for a little over two years, and today I made the decision that this year – while I am 25 years of age – I am going to make this my legal name.
Sometime in my teen years, I vowed that I would legally change my last name if I wasn’t married by 25. I’ll be 25 on Saturday and there’s no wedding in sight. I had sort of put this self-promise out of my mind (along with the vow that I’d adopt a child if I wasn’t married by 25 – because, really? 25?!) until today, when I realized that I wanted to make ‘creates’ my surname.
Why not? I’ve never liked my last name (which is nothing against my family). I probably would have changed it eventually anyway. Why not change it for myself? I love the idea of entering my next quarter of a century on this planet with a new last name – one that’s a little unconventional, but better represents who I am as a person.

I think this is absolutely wonderful, and I would be honored to have a friend named Leah Creates. ;} I’m envious, because I would love to have a beautiful name like that! I’m glad you decided to go with the name change at 25 rather than the adoption idea… lol. You may want to wait a little longer on that. ;}

This is such a neat idea! My husband and I both changed our names when we got married and it was such a nice experience (like starting fresh). I think Leah Creates has a good ring to it
