A few years ago, when I was a much less secure version of Miss Creates, I would have loved to hate Mrs. Elise Towle Snow of Argyle Whale. Why? Because she’s adorable, talented, AND has a winning personality. What a package!
Get to know her, in her words…
Who she is and what she does:
I spend my days drawing absurd animal imagery and other generally happy scenes involving vegetables or minerals for my own amusement. When I stumble upon something I feel will bring delight to others, I bust out my trusty Japanese printing machine, some colorful cardstock and an array of inks and begin printing a small edition to share with others. I primarily make art prints but sometimes I venture into notecard and sketchbook territory too. I also spend a good deal of time on the internet trying to promote my work, often becoming distracted by lolcats.
Three things Elise totally digs about Elise (and you should, too):
1. I love that I am easily entertained. Almost everything and everyone is at least a little interesting to me. I don’t even completely grasp the concept of boredom.
2. I love that I can remember almost anything if it’s in the form of a song.
3. I love that I have always been a good communicator. I feel comfortable talking to anyone about anything and that has given me the ability to always speak my mind, stand up for what I believe in, haggle for a deal at a flea market, mend awkward silences and avoid big fights.
What she’s into lately:
I am now and will always be really interested in animals. There are so many fascinating creatures with unbelievable behaviors that I am endlessly entertained/disgusted/amazed by them.
Who she admires:
I admire Miranda July‘s ability to be delightful and always interesting in any media.
I think Shauna and Stephen of Somethings Hiding In Here are a wonderful team that are great at always coming up with new stuff but retaining a strong unified line.
Laura George‘s illustrations never fail to make me smile and Alice of ForestBound has impressed me so much by creating beautiful new products out of reclaimed and history-laden materials.
& the finer details:
Oh I don’t know. I work at a bakery part time and enjoy a golden crusty baguette more than most. I have the nicest husband, two love-bunnies and a grumpy hedgehog. Argyle Whale is run out of a tiny apartment and my studio takes up the entire living room so we’re pretty awful at entertaining guests. Someday I want to move out to the country and have a hobby-sized fiber farm and a big basement studio for more involved printmaking.
Yes, she’s marvelous. Visit ArgyleWhale.com, or Elise’s blog for more Elise goodness!
